Chanel will not be launching e-commerce site

Chanel confirmed this week that it will not be following the trend of it's luxury counterparts in order to stay true to its ethos. The brand's president of fashion, Bruno Pavlovsky, maintains that its clothes are viewed better in stores, where customers are tended to by staff.

"Our clothes are quite sophisticated and one of our strengths is alterations," Pavlovsky said. "To be able to wear Chanel clothes, you need to try them on. You need to be in the fitting room. You need to have a tailor who alters the clothes to fit exactly to your body. I think it's part of Chanel. It's more than just our service. It's part of our differentiation to have ready-to-wear that is perfect for our customers. What we want today - and the way we use digital - is to have more and more people come to the boutique to see the product, to touch the product, but also to try the product."

"It's a strategic choice," Pavlosky talking to the Business of Fashion. "It's a choice to say: 'Guys, you can see whatever you want on the internet, but we want you to come to the boutique, because we feel that in the boutique we can give you the right understanding of the brand.' So, yes we could sell handbags on the internet. But my feeling is that it's not qualitative enough and it's not the kind of service that we want to give to our customers - at the moment."

Chanel currently sells fragrance and beauty products digitally, but ready-to-wear and handbags are still only available in boutiques. Although there are "huge" plans to launch an "e-service project" within the next five years, for now, Chanel devotees can rule out any full online shopping experience for the brand.

The luxury experience has long been a personal one and like much of the industry Delortae Agency that admits to being slow to take to the impersonal online approach it is nice to see that Chanel are keeping true to the tradition, what is your view?

Moncler, the clothing company of French origin founded in 1952 by French entrepreneur René Ramillon that manufactures high-end down jackets and sportswear celebrated the opening of its mono-brand store in Budapest, Hungary.
The company that took is name from the abbreviation of Monestier-de-Clermont, an Alpine town near Grenoble. In 1993, Italian sportswear manufacturer Pepper Industries purchased the brand and since 2003 it has been owned by a consortium around former Pepper Industries designer Remo Ruffini who is chairman and creative director.

Moncler store Budapest Hungary

Moncler Budapest, Hungary. Located on Andrassy Ut, the leading luxury shopping street in Budapest, the Moncler store covers 150 sqm and features both women and men apparel and accessories. The Moncler store opened on the location of the Roberto Cavalli store which closed down almost a year ago. Other luxury mono-brand stores in Budapest include: Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Burberry.

Moncler Torino Turin
This week, Moncler October 2012 also saw its first mono-brand store in the Northern Italian city of Turin (Torino). The Moncler mono-brand store which covers 90 sqm and is situated in the heart of Turin on Via Lagrange, offers the complete range of Moncler collections, men’s, women’s and accessories, Moncler S and Moncler Grenoble. With the two new openings, the store network of the Moncler rises to 83 freestanding boutiques.
Moncler Antwerp Belgium
I have to say I find their bag range uninspiring but having bought a jacket in the January sale store in Bicester village this year, I can understand why they would be the brand of choice on the slopes really warm and comfy and it's high price tag secures it will remain popular with the celebrities like Kanye West and Elle MacPherson being seen in the label. June 2010 saw hip hop Pharrell Williams in a designed collection for the label, firmly ensuring it's 'street cred' and the cool people queuing up to wear the label.

Moncler registered a 38% increase in sales during the first half of 2012, reaching a total of 155 million euros. The company is working to minimize its exposure in Italy, sales accounting for up to 35% of all sales. Moncler’s performance in Italy has remained stable despite the economic turmoil, thanks to its directly operated stores in the major cities, which target foreign travellers. In Italy, Moncler is aiming to reduce the number of multi-brand stores where it is distributed in Italy from 500 to 300 stores within the next 2 to 3 years.

Moncler looks to be following through on it's plan to open 20 mono-brand stores around the world, by the end of this year, with this one being in Budapest, the total number of mono-brand Moncler stores will thus reach 80. In February 2013, Moncler is planning to open its flagship store in Paris.
