Rihanna New Face of Dior

Rihanna New York City carrying two of Dior's most iconic bags: a light blue 'Lady Dior' and a pink 'Dior Addict'.

RIHANNA has been confirmed as the newest face of Dior’s Secret Garden campaign – and she’s believed to be the first black star to be featured by the French luxury brand. 

Of late, the 27-year-old singer, has been much sought after muse for luxury brand houses and now will star in the Secret Garden’s fourth instalment just days after she was spotted shooting in a silver dress for the brand at the Palace of Versailles in Paris earlier this week. 

Rihanna has already been the face of Gucci, Emporio Armani and Balmain, but she now has another high-end name to add to her impressive fashion house list.

“The house of Dior is pleased to announce that the fourth episode of Secret Garden was filmed this week by Steven Klein in Versailles, guest starring Rihanna,” said Dior in a statement.

In the past, each instalment of the capsule campaign has been set at a royal chateau and unlike Dior’s main campaigns, it has starred models rather than celebrities (think Jennifer Lawrence, Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis and Eva Herzigova) –until now. The fashion muse will star in a short film and print ad set to debut this spring.

This will be her first campaign for Dior and the casting choice is somewhat surprising because although she has sit on the front row of various Dior shows since Raf Simons took over, she doesn’t typically wear the brand on the red carpet – like Portman or Lawrence. Also, the pop star is thought to be the first black celebrity to appear on a Dior campaign in recent years, and certainly the first one under Simons,  the 70-year-old label’s current creative director. 

Simons recently came under fire for not casting black models in his shows, and it was not until his autumn 2013 collection when he casted six black models in the show.

EVA HERZIGOVA - Czech supermodel, is the new face of Dior's luxury anti-ageing skincare line, Capture Totale range. Filling the shoes of Sharon Stone, who had been the face of Dior beauty since 2006, was never going to be easy. Enter Eva Herzigova. 

Eva may best be remembered for being responsible for many a car being momentarily distracted from the huge billboards  during the Wonderbra 1994 campaign not to mention some considerable inrease in female bust measurements.

The campaign by Steven Meisel highlights the model’s sensual beauty and radiant skin to advertise Dior’s line of anti-aging products Capture Totale.

"Eva Herzigova proves to be the perfect embodiment of the Dior Capture Totale woman: a radiant, dazzlingly feminine woman, who reflects a passion for life and a deep desire to be beautiful," said a Dior spokesperson.

Dior has released a behind-the-scenes video of its campaign with Eva Herzigova. She will be the brand ambassador through 2013.

The supermodel of the 1990s, who is pregnant with her third child, will celebrate her 40th birthday  in 2013 also.

Jennifer Lawrence, American actress, who's lead roles in TBS's The Bill Engvall Show and in the independent films The Burning Plain and Winter's Bone, for which she received nominations for the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Satellite Award, and the Screen Actors Guild Award. At age 20, she was the second youngest actress ever to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress. Now now add another accolade to her mounting recognition, as luxury label Dior announce her as the face of their spring handbag campaign 2013.

The “Hunger Games” actress Jennifer Lawrence, who attended Dior’s couture show in July, the actress will star in the new Spring Summer 2013 campaign for the Miss Dior handbag line. Jennifer's first Dior campaign this coming spring, with March 2013 magazines.

Lawrence said she’s still “getting up to speed” on fashion, while adding, “It’s impossible to be in the industry without getting even the slightest introduction to fashion.”

Mila Kunis and Marion Cotillard are among other famous actresses to have fronted advertising featuring the Miss Dior bag. Cotillard has appeared in ads for the Lady Dior bag since 2008 and is slated to continue her association with the French house.

Sister company Parfums Christian Dior also boasts a number of actresses and actors as ambassadors: Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Mélanie Laurent, Sharon Stone, Jude Law and former Bond girl, Sophie Marceau - Asia campaign.
