Elie Saab Opens in Geneva

Elie Saab

The store officially opened 08/12/2012 and is showcasing the designer’s pre-fall and fall 2012 ready-to-wear collections as well as shoes, bags and other accessories.

In 1982, seven years into the Lebanese civil war, Israel invaded Lebanon and laid siege to Beirut. In the same year an 18-year-old local prodigy named Elie Saab held his first fashion show and opened his first atelier. His reputation spread quickly and his business grew, first in Lebanon, then across the Middle East, then around the rest of the world. became the first Lebanese designer to dress an Oscar winner, Halle Berry, in 2002 (see picture below).

The 1,700-square-foot outlet at number 10 of the prestigious Quai Général Guisan, overlooking Lake Geneva, spans two floors and was designed by Saab in collaboration with architect Chakib Richani, who also worked on the other stores in the brand’s retail network.

The building retains its original facade with two arched shop-front windows, the only direct light source for the space, which Saab and Richani “sculpted” to allow for maximum height and luminosity, highlighting minimalist fittings, the brand said.

Zara Opens First New UK Retail Concept Store

ZARA has celebrated the opening of  its first U.K. store that features the brand’s latest retail concept.  Over three floors it occupies 1,500 square meters of retail space at Park House, across the street from Marks & Spencer at the western end of Oxford Street, London W1.

Designed by Elsa Urquijo Architects, the new store is Zara’s fourth branch on the busy shopping strip and its 19th in London. It has been designed so that shoppers can move through the store intuitively.

Zara Lookbook March 2012
“The flow is different from our other stores,” said Zara’s chief communications officer Jesus Echevarria. “You are guided through ‘cubes’ and there are different dialogues with fashion and different trends happening in each of them. It feels more like a boutique space than a warehouse, this is more intimate.”

Zara Menswear
Around 15 stores in Zara’s new retail format are set to open by the end of January in cities including Paris, Utrecht in the Netherlands, Shanghai, Beijing and São José dos Campos in Brazil.

Prada Recruits “Leading Men” For New Campaign

PRADA has recruited a line-up of "leading men" for its spring/summer 2013 menswear campaign - which stars actors Harvey Keitel, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Benicio Del Toro and Dane DeHaan.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson For Prada Spring/Summer 2013
"Four leading men - two of them iconic stars and two new talents - bring their individual sense of style to the spring/summer 2013 menswear campaign," according to a recent press release from the Italian fashion house. "With a stark minimalism, heightening attention to detail, the perfection of the collection is infused with each of the actors' strong attitudes. Their laid back and playful insouciance mixed with the quiet intensity of the tailoring is a silent revolution in men's styling."

Dane DeHaan For Prada Spring/Summer 2013

I adore black and white shot's and when they are done as well as these by David Sims in London, the series of black-and-white images see each of the four actors modelling alone in a selection of the brand's impeccable tailoring, lightweight coats and jackets and casual daywear shirts.

"A painterly use of shadow and brightness creates striking silhouettes, the actors at times almost engulfed by darkness, then completely framed in blinding light," said Prada. "In a world filled with white noise, the effect is both modern and timeless."

You may remember, Prada's last autumn/winter 2012-13 menswear campaign starred actors Gary Oldman, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Bell and Garrett Hedlund.

Yves Saint Laurent ‘Muse Two Artisanal Recycled’ Bag

Provided
by Yves Saint Laurent

Produced in a limited edition of sixty, with each piece unique, the ‘Muse Two Artisanal Recycled’ bag marries the savoir-faire of Yves Saint Laurent leather goods with the artisanal handiwork of women from Burkina Faso. The women of the Gafreh Association, with support from ‘Les Filles du Facteur’ – a non-profit organization that aims to realize, promote and sustain the social, cultural and artistic values akin to women and children who face difficulty around the world – have developed a unique technique to create a textile composed of recycled plastic bags and woven cotton, which, procured at fair trade exclusively by Yves Saint Laurent, has been fashioned into an edition of the house’s iconic ‘Muse Two’ bag.

With this Yves Saint Laurent further emphasizes its commitment to innovation in design and particularly to corporate social responsibility, demonstrated in the initiative’s alliance with a non-profit women’s organization and its use of recycled materials. Along with Creative Director Stefano Pilati’s annual ‘Edition New Vintage’, an environmentally conscious capsule of ready-to-wear and accessories, and the house’s ongoing support of UN Women, The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, a clear program of support emerges for public awareness of sustainable development and design on the one hand, and critical women’s issues on the other.

The limited edition ‘Muse Two Artisanal Recycled’ will be available online at ysl.com in The United Kingdom and The United States from April, 2011 and selected Yves Saint Laurent flagship boutiques worldwide
