Elie Saab Opens in Geneva

Elie Saab

The store officially opened 08/12/2012 and is showcasing the designer’s pre-fall and fall 2012 ready-to-wear collections as well as shoes, bags and other accessories.

In 1982, seven years into the Lebanese civil war, Israel invaded Lebanon and laid siege to Beirut. In the same year an 18-year-old local prodigy named Elie Saab held his first fashion show and opened his first atelier. His reputation spread quickly and his business grew, first in Lebanon, then across the Middle East, then around the rest of the world. became the first Lebanese designer to dress an Oscar winner, Halle Berry, in 2002 (see picture below).

The 1,700-square-foot outlet at number 10 of the prestigious Quai Général Guisan, overlooking Lake Geneva, spans two floors and was designed by Saab in collaboration with architect Chakib Richani, who also worked on the other stores in the brand’s retail network.

The building retains its original facade with two arched shop-front windows, the only direct light source for the space, which Saab and Richani “sculpted” to allow for maximum height and luminosity, highlighting minimalist fittings, the brand said.

Zara Opens First New UK Retail Concept Store

ZARA has celebrated the opening of  its first U.K. store that features the brand’s latest retail concept.  Over three floors it occupies 1,500 square meters of retail space at Park House, across the street from Marks & Spencer at the western end of Oxford Street, London W1.

Designed by Elsa Urquijo Architects, the new store is Zara’s fourth branch on the busy shopping strip and its 19th in London. It has been designed so that shoppers can move through the store intuitively.

Zara Lookbook March 2012
“The flow is different from our other stores,” said Zara’s chief communications officer Jesus Echevarria. “You are guided through ‘cubes’ and there are different dialogues with fashion and different trends happening in each of them. It feels more like a boutique space than a warehouse, this is more intimate.”

Zara Menswear
Around 15 stores in Zara’s new retail format are set to open by the end of January in cities including Paris, Utrecht in the Netherlands, Shanghai, Beijing and São José dos Campos in Brazil.

World’s Largest Shoe Store Opens In Dubai

It's here the moment most of us have been waiting for has finally arrived, Level Shoe District opened the doors to its massive 96,000 square foot space in the Dubai Mall Friday, which will be home to 15,000 pairs of shoes by 250 different brands.

Luxury designer boutiques are no stranger to the affluent Dubai shoppers, Level Shoe District sells the majority of designer labels such as brands Prada, YSL and Louis Vuitton, cleverly laid out with a configuration of a shop-in-shop with separate spaces for different labels.

Patrick Calhoub of Calhoub Group, the firm behind Level Shoe District, told Bloomberg:

“The whole idea is to create a place for men and women who love shoes, who are passionate about shoes, who are addicted to shoes, who are obsessed about shoes.” Yup, that sounds like me.

The new Dubai megastore has overtaken Saks Fifth Avenue ‘s shoe department in Manhattan that’s so large it has its own zip code, as well as the Macy’s Manhattan flagship, which until now had claim to the title “world’s larget shoe store” at 39,000 square feet (less than half the space that Level Shoe District has dedicated to footwear). But it’s not just quantity that Level Shoe District offers — with a Vogue café and a cobbler that makes bespoke pairs built into the space, without doubt, an experience that promises to be every shoe shopper's paradise
