Hearst: From Elle & Marie Claire to E-Commerce

Hearst (which owns Elle, Marie Claire, Esquire and Cosmopolitan, among others) has launched the first of a few new digital-only products, a shopping site called BestProducts.com. According to Digiday, the site will be overseen by executive director Patrick Varone and will have a team of 15 when fully staffed.

BestProducts will also feature Hearst’s publishing platform, which the company uses—or will use
Hearst Corporation
soon—for all of its brands. The custom CMS allows Hearst editors to see what stories are trending well and sibling sites and share editorial content with each other, so they can scale their audience faster.

The idea of BestProducts.com is not to attempt to compete with Amazon but to serve shoppers who need help making up their mind on what to buy but don’t want to do the work of sifting through the Web’s ocean of information.

The site’s editors will evaluate and recommend products in nine verticals including food and drink, gadgets, beauty, fashion and home, based on what’s trending around the Web and what consumers are already saying about them online.

Madonna's daughter Lourdes debuts her make-up range

Precocious, moi?  Madonna's daughter Lourdes debuts her make-up range... at the tender age of 14

Lourdes Leon seems to have inherited mum Madonna's desire to rule the world and appears to be prematurely experimenting with adulthood while she does so.

The mini-mogul launched a fashion collection at the age of 13 and now, at 14 has released her first beauty line.

Despite being of an age where most girls are just being allowed to start playing with makeup, 'Lola' displayed a very adult look at the launch of Material Girl Beauty in New York City 2 August.

It was her make-up that stood out, of course: she pared a barely-there face with a racy red lip. She donned a short, red-sleeved shirt with polka dots from the Material girl spring/summer 2011 line.

The teen mixed up her look by adding ripped denim shorts and clunky white Dr Marten boots. She wore her ebony hair in a simple ponytail with a slim black headband to complete the look.
Posing pretty: The teen mogul shows off her eye palette, which will become available at Macy's stores this September

Wearing her own Soft & Pretty eye palette, she put the shade Sandstorm in her crease, Pink in the middle and Golden Shimmer underneath her eyebrow.

She completed the look with M.A.C.'s Russian Red lipstick.

The new line, which features body lotions, body washes, mists, lip glosses and nail polishes, will become available mid-August at Macy's and Macys.com and sold for $7-$12.

Additional Material Girl Beauty products, including the eye palette Lourdes is wearing, will make their premiere appearance in September.

The coloured bottles and compacts are emblazoned with a floral and lace print, reminiscent of her mother's infamous fingerless gloves.

Madonna, 52, is certainly an inspiration, given that Lourdes' first business venture was a fashion line of kitschy and cool 80s-inspired duds for teens.
