Yves Saint Laurent ‘Muse Two Artisanal Recycled’ Bag

Provided
by Yves Saint Laurent

Produced in a limited edition of sixty, with each piece unique, the ‘Muse Two Artisanal Recycled’ bag marries the savoir-faire of Yves Saint Laurent leather goods with the artisanal handiwork of women from Burkina Faso. The women of the Gafreh Association, with support from ‘Les Filles du Facteur’ – a non-profit organization that aims to realize, promote and sustain the social, cultural and artistic values akin to women and children who face difficulty around the world – have developed a unique technique to create a textile composed of recycled plastic bags and woven cotton, which, procured at fair trade exclusively by Yves Saint Laurent, has been fashioned into an edition of the house’s iconic ‘Muse Two’ bag.

With this Yves Saint Laurent further emphasizes its commitment to innovation in design and particularly to corporate social responsibility, demonstrated in the initiative’s alliance with a non-profit women’s organization and its use of recycled materials. Along with Creative Director Stefano Pilati’s annual ‘Edition New Vintage’, an environmentally conscious capsule of ready-to-wear and accessories, and the house’s ongoing support of UN Women, The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, a clear program of support emerges for public awareness of sustainable development and design on the one hand, and critical women’s issues on the other.

The limited edition ‘Muse Two Artisanal Recycled’ will be available online at ysl.com in The United Kingdom and The United States from April, 2011 and selected Yves Saint Laurent flagship boutiques worldwide

Louis Vuitton Sues Warner Bros For Using Fake Bag In Hangover II

Louis Vuitton making a point or making a stand?
Louis Vuitton HQ, W1

A studio that has been a champion of stopping piracy is now facing awkward accusations that it showed counterfeit luggage in a hit movie.
In a complaint filed Thursday in Manhattan, luxury goods maker Louis Vuitton accused Warner Bros of ignoring its instructions not to use a fake handbag in an airport scene in the Hangover II. In the scene, Alan (played by Zach Galifianakis) carries luggage marked LVM and warns another character “Careful, that is.. that is a Louis Vuitton.”

According to the complaint, the item in question is not in fact a Louis Vuitton but was instead made by a Chinese American firm called Diophy. Louis Vuitton is currently suing Diophy before the International Trade Commission in the hopes of getting its knock-off products banned from the United States.
Louis Vuitton says that Alan’s “Careful, that’s a Louis Vuitton” line been become a popular catchphrase and that the movie has produced consumer confusion. Its lawsuit also claims that there has been gossip and Internet buzz about whether or not Alan’s bag is real. Louis Vuitton has long been an obsession of sorts with certain celebrities and fashionistas.
You can see a shot of Alan and his “Louis Vuitton” luggage below.

The luxury brand also claims that Warner Bros caused further harm by refusing to edit the bag scene before it released the movie on DVD.
This is not the first time that the studio has been tangled up in intellectual property issues with Hangover II. In June, it settled a copyright suit brought by a tattoo artist who claimed that it had used a Mike Tyson body design without permission.
If the Louis Vuitton allegations are true, they may prove a huge embarrassment for Warner Bros which has been part of a full-court press in Washington this month to pass a controversial law called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act).
The handbag maker is asking the court to grant an order to destroy all copies of the Hangover II and promotional materials that contain the airport scene with the fake bag. Louis Vuitton also wants profits from the film and triple damages.
It’s possible, of course, that the lawsuit is simply a publicity stunt to draw attention to piracy. If so, it’s working. If not, this is sure to develop over the coming months and I for one will be following the case as it un ravels in more detail. I strongly suspect, they are more making a point rather than a stand, what do you think?

Derek Lam accuses Ivanka Trump of copying shoe design

Derek Lam's Ayami sandal (left) and Ivanka Trump's Cadie sandal (right).

Fashion designer Derek Lam is taking legal action against Ivanka Trump, claiming a sandal that's part of her footwear line is a copy of one of his designs.
WWD reports that Lam's legal team sent a cease-and-desist order to Trump's shoe company, Ivanka Trump Footwear, and its distributor, Marc Fisher Footwear, demanding that the company pull the shoe from stores within seven days.

Remember, when the issue first raised it's head Derek Lam's legal team sent Ivanka Trump a cease-and-desist letter yesterday regarding her Cadie wedge sandals, which look exactly like his Ayami wedge sandals (their retail prices: $150 and $780, respectively). Lam's lawyers have given Trump's company, Ivanka Trump Footwear, and its licensee Marc Fisher Footwear, seven days to pull the shoes from shelves.

WWD reports:

“We have seen very similar copies before but we have never seen a shoe that perfectly copied,” said Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann, chief executive officer of Derek Lam. “It’s such an investment to make a shoe … we had to protest this.”
Schlottmann said one of his shoe designers, who was shopping on bloomingdales.com, saw Trump’s wedge and alerted him immediately.
“I actually ordered them, but I haven’t received them yet,” he said, noting that the sandal is nowhere to be found on Trump’s Web site. “I’m sure Ms. Trump doesn’t know her wedge is copy because it’s through a license.”

Meanwhile, Lam's lawyers are combing through sales records of Trump's Cadie wedge, which implies that they might sue for damages. Well, here we are the New Year and the drama continues. Marc Fisher Footwear, the licensing company behind Ivanka Trump's shoe line, has refused to cooperate with Derek Lam's cease-and-desist letter regarding a look-alike sandal. Lam CEO Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann accused Trump's company of "blantantly" copying their Ayami wedge shoe on Wednesday, and Lam's lawyers demanded that all of Trump's Cadie wedges be pulled from shelves within seven days. But yesterday, Marc Fisher Footwear announced that they have no intention of meeting these demands.
WWD reports:

“The Lam wedge sandals are of a popular design type that has been used by numerous manufacturers for many decades. There is nothing iconic about the appearance of the Lam sandal,” a representative from Marc Fisher told WWD. “The Ivanka Trump sandals prominently display the Ivanka Trump name, and there can be no confusion as to the source of the Ivanka Trump sandals. Therefore, Marc Fisher Footwear, the licensee of the Ivanka Trump brand, strongly denies Lam’s claims.”

Lam claims that Trump's Cadie wedge sandals, which retail for $150, are too similar to his Ayami wedge sandals, which sell for $780, according to the report. (You can see the shoes side-by-side here.)
Derek Lam CEO Jan-Hendrik Schlottmann told WWD that one of the company's shoe designers spotted Trump's sandals while shopping on Bloomingdales.com.
"We have seen very similar copies before but we have never seen a shoe that perfectly copied," he said. "It's such an investment to make a shoe ... we had to protest this."
Marc Fisher Footwear denied the claims on Thursday.
"The Lam wedge sandals are of a popular design type that has been used by numerous manufacturers for many decades," the company said in a statement, obtained by People magazine. "There is nothing iconic about the appearance of the Lam sandal."
Trump, who stars alongside her father, Donald Trump, on "The Celebrity Apprentice," also designs eponymous lines of jewelry and handbags.
Unseemly conflicts like this one are usually settled quietly between the respective parties, so it'll be interesting to see how this plays out in the coming weeks.

Wonder who's handbags will be "similar" in design?

Louis Vuitton George Street Maison Opening Celebration

Provided by
Watch the opening ceremonies for the newest Louis Vuitton Maison, recently opened to the public on George Street in Sydney, Australia.

There was only one place I wanted to be as this New Year began and that was at the super grand opening of the new Louis Vuitton Maison, George Street in Sydney, Australia.

Cate Blanchet looked stunning as she kicked off the proceedings and officially cut the ribbon to indicate the store was now open.

Customer's were introduced to a newly created Department of Made To Order, as the luxury leather giants explained, "Customers are looking for more and more sophistication. The key is personalisation, made to measure shoes for men and a section balcony for women, as the group went on to explain "the made to order is really an access to another level of luxury"

The evening was hosted in the sumptuous store as Louis Vuitton celebrates their 25th year history in Sydney. On the night, the rich and famous, not to mention the who's who in Australia, were able to have shoes and handbags exclusively made for them in the upstairs area, with craftsmen on hand to cater to every specific need.

The food and champagne flowed and the cash register's rang out to see in a New Year!
